A Scholar-Practitioner Conversation: Intentional Mentoring, Advising and Informal Learning was the first academic learning event that I attended that complemented my MAAE program. It was an truly eye-opening experience. I thought I knew what mentoring was and how to be a mentor but the discussion leaders brought up so many interesting mentoring paths. Mentoring can be Informal and formal and there are so many pieces for a successful mentoring partnership to occure. I confess it was a little intimidating. I walked in a few minutes late and the discussion had started.

Brandy Agerbeck, a Graphic Facilitator that created the above graphic while listening to the audience. I on the other hand could barely take notes that are legible.  The image doesn't do it justice. She used a big piece of white paper on a a giant white board. The image became a catalyst for thought and let the audience see the concepts interrelate.  Here website is Loosetooth.com. If you have time check out her Wizard of Oz example. It's amazing!

I learned so many things from this meeting and I can't wait till the next  meeting.

Things to remember before I attend one of these events.

1. Arrive early. It's no fun trying to cool down brisk walk from Millennium Park to DePaul

2. When something is being presented online simultaneously fix the hair and make-up prior to walking in the room. I felt disheveled..not a good feeling.
3. Read and bring notes and questions.
